Budget gives boost to Louisburgh Locality Solar PV Meitheal

Author:

The recent budget announcement that the first €400 earned by exporting electricity to the electricity grid will now be tax free will give a further incentive to the Climate Action Louisburgh Locality Solar PV Meitheal project. Since launching the project at a public meeting in Killeen Community Centre in August 2022 a total of 211kWp has been installed under the initiative. A further 30kWp has already been approved as the Fourth Meitheal begins to take shape.

There has been very positive feedback from those who have installed PV in the Louisburgh Locality. Householders have been reporting that their PV has produced anything up to 75% of their annual electricity usage. With current energy pricing the payback period for their installation has been greatly shortened and is now typically between 6 and 8 years.
