Successful Water Heritage Day Event 25th August 2024

Author:

We had a great day celebrating rivers and dodging the rain in Louisburgh. Thanks to everyone who helped with funding locations and participation. At the Bunowen River, Inland Fisheries Ireland did a display on Electrofishing; Eanna Hyland LAWPRO Community Water Officer demonstrated kick sampling. Connie O’Driscoll set up microscopes in Books at One where we looked at the river finds. After refreshments provided by TIA, Carlene Lyttle Project Officer from Inishowen Rivers Trust, Donnegal, gave an inspiring talk on the work they have been doing over the last 10 years including Nature Based Solutions to help with river flow. There was a lively discussion about ways we might employ similar solutions at our rivers, Carrowniskey and Bunowen, and their tributaries.
